Breast Milk Test Strips

Why guess when you can test?
As a breastfeeding mom, you can safely enjoy a cocktail if you’re careful! The American Academy of Pediatrics’ (AAP) latest guidelines state that consuming a drink (12-oz of beer, 1-oz hard liquor, glass of wine) is fine as long as you wait 3-4 hours before feeding your baby again. Now with the Breast milk Alcohol Test Strips, you can know for certain whether alcohol has passed through your system and it’s safe to nurse again.

When you drink, your baby drinks too!
Drinking regularly (over 30mg/dl, or 0.03%) while breastfeeding may lead to drowsiness, deep sleep, weakness and slowed growth for your baby. And when there is alcohol in the milk babies seem to take less milk than they would otherwise. Bottom line: it’s not safe for even small amounts of alcohol to reach your child through breast milk!

Breast milk Alcohol Test Strips let you test with 99.9% accuracy that your last cocktail is not still present in your breast milk.
And if alcohol is present, our test will give you a good estimate on how long you should wait until it’s safe to feed your baby at the breast again.

HOW TO PERFORM THE TESTS
Allow the pouched strip to adjust to room temperature (15-30°C / 59 - 86°F) prior to testing.
1. Remove the test strip from the sealed barrel and use it as soon as possible. Do not use the test strip if the reaction pad has a blue color before the breast milk is applied or is otherwise discolored.
2. Saturate the reaction pad with breast milk from the collection container or by applying the breast milk directly to the reaction pad. (It usually takes 6-8 seconds to be saturated.)
3. Read results at 2 minutes by visually comparing the color of the reaction pad with the color chart to determine the relative blood alcohol level.
Do not interpret the result after 3 minutes.

HOW TO READ THE RESULTS
Positive:
The Breastmilk Alcohol Test Strip will produce a color change in the presence of alcohol in breast milk. The color will range from light blue color at 0.02% relative blood alcohol concentration to a dark blue color near 0.30% relative blood alcohol concentration. Color pads are provided within this range to allow an approximation of relative blood alcohol concentration. The test may produce colors that appear to be between adjacent color pads.
Negative:
When the Breastmilk Alcohol Test Strip shows no color change this should be interpreted as a negative result indicating that alcohol has not been detected.
Invalid:
If the color pad has a blue color before applying milk sample, do not use the test, it is void.
